Machine Operator Lead

Essential Duties and Responsibilities :

  • encourage a safe, positive, and professional working environment
  • daily supervision of associates including their safety, daily performance, training, periodic performance appraisals and counseling, absences, vacations, etc
  • perform special projects as needed
  • communicate effectively with all levels of the organization, provide information as requested
  • ability to operate equipment at the facility and do so as needed
  • deal with scheduling conflicts to ensure on-time delivery goals are met
  • inspect production quality and accuracy making decisions to resolve problems
  • communicate with other shifts and departments regarding production issues to resolution
  • serve as evacuation marshal to the entire facility, in the event of emergency evacuations
  • operate production menus on the AS/400 system
  • perform miscellaneous duties as necessary
  • follow safe work practices
  • support LEAN, safety, sustainability, environmental initiatives

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • must have high school diploma or equivalent
  • must be able to read manuals, production schedules, computer screens, and other written material
  • computer experience
  • proven decision making and problem solving skills
  • must be adaptable and able to troubleshoot problems as they arise
  • knowledge of basic leadership and supervisory techniques, strong attention to detail
  • ability to handle multiple priorities and adapt quickly to change
  • must be able to communicate professionally with vendors, coworkers and other departments (verbally and in writing), computer skills
  • must be able to work with confidential information
  • must be dependable, punctual, and adhere to attendance policy
  • must adhere to all company policies and procedures
  • ability to prioritize tasks
  • willingness to work overtime as needed
  • must be cooperative and willing to learn new responsibilities

Preferred Skills and Experience:

  • prior experience with yarn making equipment

Physical Demands : 

  • must be able to distinguish various yarn properties, such as color shading, texture, weight, and "feel"
  • must have manual dexterity and visual acuity
  • must be able to frequently lift and carry bulky and heavy objects (up to 50 lbs. without mechanical assistance)
  • frequent walking, standing, bending, twisting, reaching, stooping, and crouching
  • must be able to work in varying temperatures within manufacturing areas
  • the ability to wear a filtering face piece (dust mask) as needed
